Useful links: Information sources and databases

Websites offering resources, databases, guidelines:

Databases on completed risk assessments and ongoing approvals:

  • USDA APHIS GM approvals database
this lists all GM crops either approved for commercial use ("nonregulated") or under evaluation (pending), including links to complete application documents from the biotech companies, and APHIS decision documents. Newest applications at the bottom of the page!
  • Database of US field trials (run by Information Systems for Biotechnology ISB) - all permits issued for field trials since 1987
  • EU evaluations of GM crops (Joint Research Centre)
This page lists deliberate releases and placing on the EU market of
GMOs. It publishes information and receives comments from the public regarding notifications about deliberate field trials and placing on the market of genetically modified organisms, as defined in Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 March 2001.
  • Database of field trials in the EU (Joint Research Centre)
lists all applications for field trials since 1991by country or organism
  • Australian government GM applications (Australian Gene Technology Regulator)
lists all GM crop intentional release applications under evaluation, with links to the application documents and opportunities to comment on the application.
  • Australian government GMO risk assessments (Australian Gene Technology Regulator)
lists all GM crops that have been approved either for field trials ("limited and controlled release") or for commercial release, with links to the risk assessment documents.
  • ICGEB Risk Assessment Searching Mechanism
pilot searching mechanism that links to risk assessment documents from various countries.
    In Spanish:
  • SAGPYA (Argentinian Agriculture Ministry) GMO applications
Scroll to the bottom of the page!! to find a table of applications with links to the risk assessment documents
  • CFIA Field trials in Canada
  • New Zealand - click on search applications or search new organisms

Email newsletters and sources of news on biotechnology and biosafety:
